Areca Palm Maintenance
The Areca Palm is one of the easiest plants to grow outdoors and indoors. The Chrysalidocarpus Lutescens will adapt very easily to different surroundings.
When used as a houseplant, try to keep the palm in direct sunlight. When the plant is grown outside it is better to plant it in places with bright indirect light. Full sun can yellow the fronds and you can not bring the color back. You need to trim off dead yellow leaves.
The tree is moderate drought tolerant. However, this attractive plant requires plenty of water. With little water in dry climates the plant will wilt. Too much water can also damage the plant. It is prone to root rot.
When young this graceful bush does not require trimming. When the tree ages it spreads out dramatically and gets very thick. The fronds bend over and have not very attractive appearance. Trimming off and cutting off the fronds is necessary to keep it look nice.
This beautiful Cane Yellow Palm is sensitive to leaf spot disease and spider mites. Check regularly the leaves and if you find the problem use a pest remover or miticide. It is also sensitive to salts and minerals in the water.
Use fertilizer a few times a year to keep your Areca palm looking nice and healthy.
